IT Project Management Consultant
About the Job
We are always looking for professionals with 8-10+ years overall experience and 5+ years of relevant IT Project Management experience for work on dynamic client engagements. The applicant should be creative and have strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ideal candidates have relevant IT Project Management experience with superior oral and written communication skills, a client service focus, a willingness to travel to meet client demands, as well as an ability to define problems and implement a complex solution in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Partnering with the service delivery teams to understand their portfolio, business strategy, and prioritization in order to facilitate quality service delivery
- Assessing and improving the effectiveness of IT portfolio management and demand management processes
- Identifying, defining, developing and implementing improvements to IT project/financial reporting and monitoring processes and procedures
- Developing tool requirements for delivering IT project/financial reporting and monitoring
- Providing executive visibility to IT project, program, portfolio and functional level status, issues, risks, costs, budget, etc.
- Producing integrated life cycle dashboard reports at the function, portfolio and sub-portfolio levels to show status of demand requests, budget vs. actual vs. projected spend, and program/project delivery
- Monitoring people, process, and technology requirements within the service delivery function
- Monitoring and reporting on IT program/project financials to ensure project managers are managing financials in accordance with sound financial principles, identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions
- Driving the implementation and embedding of process, methods and best practice into service delivery activities for the function
- Conducting program/project health checks to help assure program/project delivery including artifacts/documentation, gate reviews, and monitoring for delivery to scope, time, quality and cost
- Working with the global resource and vendor management teams on staff requirements and reporting
- Working with the service delivery teams to prioritize customer demand, both within a portfolio and across the function
- Improving communications, content and transparency of information with key stakeholders
- Monitoring IT program/project baselines to ensure activities are occurring as planned – scope, budget and schedule
- Proactively identifying risks and issues on IT programs/projects – advising team on the development of risk management and issue management plans
Professional Qualifications
Demonstrated Knowledge & Skills:
- Understanding of end-to-end IT life cycle (pipeline, resource, demand, project delivery, financial)
- Experience in end-to-end financial management – plan, forecast, actual – function, portfolio and program/project levels
- Very good understanding of service delivery related key performance indicators, experience with development and tracking of program/project related metrics
- Project delivery/ management experience
- Advanced analytical problem solving skills
- Business case development
- Strong conceptual thinking ability
- Attention to detail and perseverance to completion
- Strong organization/time management skills
- Strong relationship building between internal customers, vendors and employees
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills – ability to interact with all levels
- Ability to deal constructively with change
- Impeccable relationship management
- Detailed process and financial analysis and modeling a plus
- Business Process Improvement knowledge and experience a plus
- Organizational Change Management skills including change management planning and execution and communication planning, analysis and execution a plus
- Advanced level Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel skills
Education and Certifications:
- College Degree required, preferably in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
- M.S., M.A., or M.B.A graduate level degree a plus
- Project Management Training/Certification such as PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) or Prince2 a plus
- Six Sigma, or similar process improvement training/certification, a plus
Minimum Experience:
- 8-10 years of work experience
- 5+ years of relevant IT project management experience
- External consulting experience required
- Program Management experience a plus
- Process Improvement/Performance Management experience a plus
- Change Management experience a plus
